Answer

  1. Appy difference of squares identity on the left hand side

    (x + 1)^2 − (x − 1)^2

    =[(x+1)+(x-1)][(x+1)-(x-1)]

    =2x(2)

    =4x = 32

    Divide both sides by 4

    Therefore, x = 8
