Since the triangle $$ BDC $$ is similar to triangle $$ AEC $$ , their corresponding sides are proportional,

$$ \dfrac{BD}{AE}  = \dfrac{DC}{EC}  $$

$$ \dfrac{3}{5}=\dfrac{4}{EC}  $$

$$ 	herefore  EC = \dfrac{5}{3}\cdotp 4 \approx6.67 $$ 

$$ DE = EC-DC = 6.67-4=2.67 $$
